DearManning,—Ifeelmyselfunabletothankyousufficientlyforyourkindletter.Itwasdoublyacceptabletome,bothforthechoicepoetryandthekindhonestprosewhichitcontained.ItwasjustsuchaletterasIshouldhaveexpectedfromManning.
IaminmuchbetterspiritsthanwhenIwrotelast.Ihavehadaveryeligibleoffertolodgewithafriendintown.Hewillhaveroomstoletatmidsummer,bywhichtimeIhopemysisterwillbewellenoughtojoinme.Itisagreatobjecttometoliveintown,whereweshallbemuchmoreprivate,andtoquitahouseandneighbourhoodwherepoorMarysdisorder,sofrequentlyrecurring,hasmadeusasortofmarkedpeople.WecanbenowhereprivateexceptinthemidstofLondon.Weshallbeinafamilywherewevisitveryfrequently;onlymylandlordandIhavenotyetetoaconclusion.Hehasapartnertoconsult.Iamstillonthetremble,forIdonotknowwherewecouldgointolodgingsthatwouldnotbe,inmanyrespects,highlyexceptionable.OnlyGodsendMarywellagain,andIhopeallwillbewell!Theprospect,suchasitis,hasmademequitehappy.Ihavejusttimetotellyouofit,asIknowitwillgiveyoupleasure.—Farewell.
